I was already given something even better than what I asked for, but I was too blind to see:

- - You learn only when you are humbled. Alhamdulillah, I have never been told that I cannot do something. My parents have always been super supportive, my closest and dearest have always been extremely encouraging and affirmative. And I have always been privileged to have the luxury of choice. So, to be told I could not do something truly was a kick to my pride. But this Ayah in the Quran was a much-needed slap to my ego, a wake up call my soul sorely needed, and it was an Ayah that truly humbled me. Allah SWT says in Surah Ibrahim, Ayah 34:  "If you tried to count Allah’s blessings, you would never be able to number them."  When Allah SWT says you would never, then it means you would never. Full stop. Meaning... no one, from the beginning to the end of time, can ever list ALL of Allah's Blessings even if they tried! His Ni'mah is truly innumerable!  So here I am thinking...  if I cannot even begin to number all of t...

Just like how the umbrella protects us from the sun and the rain. Istighfar is like the hand which protects us from anything difficult which comes our way:

 - The Treatment of Laziness and Frustration Dr. Omar Abdul Kafi said that one day he was giving a Friday sermon in one of the Masjid. After the prayer a man who had a long hair and a long beard came to him. Surprisingly it showed that he did not care about himself at all. He told Dr Omar: "I am very lazy, with a lot of sleep. I hardly wake up, I only wake up to eat and go back to sleep again. I neglect my work, my future, and everything else and I don't care. My children think I am a strange person and very boring. I have a lack of enthusiasm, and I am always having frustration. What should I do please help me." Dr. Omar told him to ask Allah for forgiveness by saying "Astaghfir Allah" at least 100 times in a day, and to come back to him after one week, to tell him the result. The man said: "I am telling you I am lazy, I sleep more than 15 hours in a day. I am neglecting my prayers, my children and my work, and you are telling me to ask Allah for forgivene...

The power of Istighfar:

This story about “Istighfar” is from the life of Imam Ahmed Bin Hanbal, often referred to as the “Sheikh ul-Islam” or the “Imam of Ahl al-Sunnah.” During his old age, while Imam Ahmed was travelling he stopped by a town. After the prayers, he wanted to stay for the night in the masjid yard because he didn’t know anyone in the town. Owing to his humility, he hadn’t introduced himself to anyone thinking that if he did, he would be welcomed by many people. Failing to recognize Ahmed bin Hanbal, the caretaker of the mosque refused to let him stay in the mosque. As Imam Ahmed was quite old, the caretaker had to drag him out of the mosque. On seeing this, a baker from a nearby place felt pity for Imam Ahmed and offered to be the host to him for the night. During his stay with the baker, Imam Ahmed observed that the baker would constantly recite Istighfar. Imam Ahmed asked the baker if this constant practice of saying Istighfar had any effect on him.   *_The baker responded by tellin...
