Allah talks about those Christians who cannot control their tears when they listen to the Qur’anic recitation. This was especially in context to Najashi Ash’amah, the Christian King of Habsha who had accepted Islam.

From Verses 87 of Surah Maidah the topics like Halal & Haram and extremism are discussed.

Islam is a religion of balance. It neither calls for abstention of permissible items (for drinking, eating, wearing etc.) as piety, nor does it abolish the distinction between Halal & Haram.

Verse 89 talks about oaths (qasm/aqd). The penalty of breaking the oath is to either feed 10 poor and needy, twice, with an average food of his/her usual intake (cost wise), or to clothe them, or to free a slave. If someone cannot do it, he/she should fast on three days. Allah also advices to be true on oaths to be safe from getting penalized.

If a person takes an oath of something which is against Shari’ah (like cutting off relations etc.), he/she is bound to break it and pay the aforementioned penalty.

Verses 90 to 92 talk about gamble and alcohol. Allah says that Shaytan wants to use these to sow hatred among Muslims. After talking about the bad consequences of using/being involved in it, Allah strictly asks humans: “Will you abstain?” (…or not from these evil deeds?).

The next topic deals with prohibition of hunting in the state of Ihram. However, one can hunt for fish in this condition.

The importance of Kaba is mentioned.

Allah talks of two of his qualities:

1. Firstly, he is the giver of extreme punishment.

2. Secondly, he is the most forgiving too.

One can thus make him/herself worthy of deserving any one of His qualities, as per good or bad deeds.

Verse 99 talks about Prophet Muhammed’s ﷺ responsibility, that is to deliver Allah’s message to the people, not to convince them.

Verse 101 stopped people from asking unnecessary questions to Prophet Muhammed ﷺ.

Quran then reminds us of the terrifying Day of Judgement, when everybody’s deeds will be accounted. Allah will assemble all the prophets and messengers and ask them: What response did you get from your respective people when you called them toward Islam? They all will submit and say: We have no (limited) knowledge about it, certainly our knowledge is equal to nothing in front of yours.

Verse 116 & 117: Then Allah will talk to Jesus (Sayyiduna Isa alaihissalam), Reminds him of His Favors on him and his mother Sayyidah Mariam (alaiha assalam) and will Question him: “O Isa, the son of Maryam. Did you ask your people to take you and your mother as two gods besides Allah?” He (alaihissalam) will submit: “Glory be to You! I cannot say anything which I have no right to say. If I had said, You would certainly know. You Know what’s in my heart, but I don’t know that which is in Your Knowledge.

I told them nothing other than what You asked me to say: “Worship Allah, Who is my Lord and yours.” I was vigilant as to their beliefs, but when you lifted me up then You Yourself kept a watch over their affairs, and You are a Witness over everything.”

Then Allah says that Today is the Day when only the truthful will benefit. And Allah talks of the stations of the truthful people in the Heavens, where they’ll live forever.

Surah An’aam: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (ra) states that this chapter was revealed in a single night in Makkah Mukarramah. (Source: Mujam Kabeer by Tabrani)

The chapter begins with the mention of Allah’s Control over everything, He being the creator of the heavens and the earth, the darkness and light, created human beings from dust, lifespans and a fixed time for the Judgement Day.

The polytheists of Makkah were demanding Prophet Muhammed ﷺ to show a miracle according to their wish.

Allah told Prophet Muhammed ﷺ that they will not accept Islam despite seeing a miracle, will rather call it sorcery. Then they will surely be eligible for torment.

Allah talks further of the disbelievers: If an angels will descend toward them (to show Haq/truth), they will not be able to see them. If a physical book is reveled on them, they will not believe in it even after touching it, if someone comes to them in a human form, they’ll say he’s just a human like us.

Allah mentions that they will straightaway deny their polytheistic activities when He the Exalted will Ask them about it on the Day of Judgement.

Allah says their hearts (eyes and ears) are veiled from the truth due to their bad deeds, and thus they do not heed to the Quran. They think the worldly life is the only one. They will then be placed on the verge of Hell and be asked: “Is this the truth or not?” (Meaning does Hell truly exist or not?”). Then they will have to bear its torment for their disbelief.

The regret of the disbelievers on the doomsday is then mentioned.

Allah motivates Prophet Muhammed ﷺ and says: “Do not be sad. They (the polytheists) are not denying you, rather they are denying Allah’s verses. If you stop reciting these verses (of Quran), they will once again start calling you Sadiq and Ameen (truthful and trustworthy).

Verse 46 talks about Allah’s blessings to the humans in the form of the 5 senses.

Allah then asked His prophet ﷺ not to turn his focus away from the poor people while in conversation with the arrogant and ungrateful leaders of Makkah.

Verse 64 talks about different torments and their types.

Verses 75 to 79 talk about Sayyiduna Ibraheem’s (alaihissalam) incidents while he was contemplating about the True God, and saw a star, the sun and the moon. But when all of them set at their respective times, Sayyiduna Ibraheem (alaihissalam) said they cannot be Gods, for there is no downfall to God.

Sayyiduna Ibraheem (a.s.) reasoned with his people as to how can they call those aspects as gods which cannot save themselves from downfall?

Then Sayyiduna Ibraheem (a.s.) said those words which we all now say before starting salah/prayers:

إِنِّى وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِىَ لِلَّذِى فَطَرَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًۭا ۖ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

Translation: “I have indeed turned my face toward the One Who has created the heavens and the earth beyond compare, and I am not amongst the polytheists.” (Surah An’am, verse 79).

Verse 94 talks of the hereafter again. On the doomsday, after assembling every human being, Allah reminds them that He assembled humans for the first time before sending them to the world, everyone’s soul was assembled, and He had Asked: “Am I not your Lord?” Everyone had said: “Yes, you are”.

Then the polytheists will be said: “None of your self-made gods will help you Today.”

Allah then asks people to contemplate on the following to recognize Allah:

1. How a plant or a tree comes up from a single grain and/or a seed.

2. Turns a life into death, and a death back to life (example of an egg which comes lifeless from a hen, and comes to life after incubation).

3. The changes in the night and the day.

Allah says that the sun and the moon are meant for the count of days, the stars for navigation etc.

The end of this Juz recalls the mention of the Oneness of Allah, and the rejection of ascribing partners to Allah.

Rasoolullah's ﷺ Shoes and Leather Socks:

Rasoolullah (ﷺ) wore shoes like sandals or slippers. Rasoolullah (ﷺ) also wore black leather socks and during Wadhu passed his moist hanks over them (made Masah). His shoes had two straps between the toes (Uswah: Mirqaat). There was a strap at the back as well. The Shoes of Rasoolullah (ﷺ) were one span and two fingers long and 7 fingers wide; there was a space of two fingers between the two straps at the toe end (Uswah) Rasoolullah (ﷺ)used to wear shoes made of leather that was smooth after the removal of the animal hair, and after wadhu He would place his feet into them because they were pure and made in such a way that his toes would thouch the ground. A key insight into the development of your child:

THIS WAS DELIVERED BY SHAYKH AKRAM NADWI IN A CONFERENCE AT THE AZHAR UNIVERSITY, CAIRO. DEPT OF ISLAMIC PSYCHOLOGY EDUCATION. - The purpose of marriage is to have children and then educate them to worship Allah SWT. - When a child is born, a mother and father are also born. - The personal development of the parents is just as important as that of the child. This point is often overlooked. - Modern education seeks to incorporate people into the economy - to make money. Islamic education seeks to train people to become 'good' individuals, in terms of their character etc. 'Good' meaning to prepare for the Hereafter. - Your children, before they are your children, they are the slaves of Allah. His rights over them precede your rights. - Your duty is to teach them and provide them guidance - not to make them pious. You will be questioned whether you taught them right or not. - Parents need to realise they too are slaves of Allah. His rights over them precede their...

Tarbiyah vs. Ta’leem

Sh. Salman al-Odah was asked, “How do you get your kids to love the salah?” The first thing he said was, “Have them love you.” Learn this life lesson: tarbiyah is founded upon relationship. Tarbiyah is the raising up and education of a child such that she can reach her full potential as a human and a Muslim. It is different than ta’leem, which refers to fact-based education. We often confuse the two, giving our children ta’leem when they need tarbiyah. Ta’leem is teaching our children the how-to of the prayer. Memorizing the duas, learning the positions. Tarbiyah is the cuddling after the prayer when we ask each other, “What did you ask for in sajdah?” Ta’leem is memorizing ahadeeth and verses. Tarbiyah is the dinner-table banter where we talk current events and other issues on our mind. Ta’leem is studying fiqh. Tarbiyah is the loving conversation we have about an incident that happened at school. Ta’le...

Allah says that they thought that the Muslims will lose the war and thus refrained from joining. But Allah kept the morale of the Islamic infantry high, as the Byzantines didn’t turn up at Tabuk at all for the combat.   • Before Prophet Muhammed ﷺ returned to Madinah from Tabuk, Allah informed him that the hypocrites will give him lame excuses, and asked him ﷺ to tell the same to the hypocrites. • Verse 98 of Surah Tawbah talked about two types of Arab nomadic villagers: 1. The ones who regarded money spending in the way of Allah as a compulsory fine, and looked forward to misfortunes befalling on Muslims. 2. Those who saw the money spending in Allah’s way as a means of attaining nearness to Allah, and earning the prophet’s ﷺ supplications for themselves. • A...

A believer's story of a Quarintine:

Assalamu Alaikum  Alhamdhulillah ... By the grace of Almighty Allah, I reached home yesterday by the Delhi... Trivandrum special train.  And now I'm under home quarantine for two weeks in the upper flat of our residence. My children and grandchildren are all away, so strict quarantine is made easy.  I request you all to make Dhua for ease.    We started for Nizaamudheen on the 11th of February, from Kollam ( Ab. Kareem Sb of Poredam, Thaha Sr of Pattazy and myself ), to spend two months in Nizaamudheen Markaz for Thartheeb. But eventually, as you know, things took a different course.  Insha Allah, it will be exactly 4 months on 11th June, when we finish the ongoing quarantine.     We were put in forced quarantine for 58 days in 4 different quarantine camps in Delhi without periodic tests. The entire Ramadhaan and Edul Fithr was spent in the camps. We had the unique distinction of having total vegitarian food for a full Ramadhaan and even on t...
